The Secure Accommodation Network represents and promotes the work of Secure Children's Homes in England and Wales. The group was set up in the mid-1980's in recognition that this area of work was undervalued, often misunderstood and not well represented in the range of forums where work with difficult and damaged young people was discussed. The Network also has links with a range of organisations as diverse as the Voice of the Child in Care and the Howard League.
SAN exists to promote and develop the highest quality of care for young people. The work of the Network is promoted by the Unit Managers and Heads of Education. It is done on a voluntary basis in addition to the "day job" and is dependent upon the goodwill, commitment and professionalism of those working in secure care.
" " Secure accomodation should be viewed as a positive option not a last resort " "
