Practice guidance guidelines
Many staff, managers and a range of social care agencies and organisations have made major and significant contributions in both time and research to the development of these good practice guidance notes. Each Good Practice Guide GPG is intended to act as an advisory guide and not the definitive word on any given topic. The documents are neither conclusive nor exhaustive Each GPG is based on consultation and research with appropriate agencies and organisations as well as with local, regional and national regulation and legislation. Whilst the guidance is of an advisory nature, it can be modified and made more unit specific as a policy and supporting procedure.

These guidelines are primarily a source of information, guidance and direction for staff and managers employed within Secure Children's Homes (England and Wales) who are governed by regulation identified within the Children Act 1989 and inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and its Welsh equivalent (CISW). It is also intended to compliment (not replace) guidance, regulation and legislation provided by CSCI, CISW, OFSTED and the Youth Justice Board (England and Wales) in the delivery of quality services and standards to young people within secure children's homes.
