Smyth Adolescent Service, currently based at Spring Hill but to move to new purpose built unit called Malcolm Arnold House in Autumn 2005. Both current and new buildings based in Northampton as part of the St. Andrew's Group of Hospitals campus.
Service summary:
Secure treatment facilities for young people with developmental disabilities and challenging behaviour, including forensic needs. Mild or borderline learning disability, including autistic spectrum disorders. Young people admitted between ages of 11-19 years (and can remain until age of 23 years if appropriate). Accepts young people with behavioural, learning and communication problems, which pose major challenges to local and national services. Current service at Spring Hill provides 29 beds but new purpose built unit Malcolm Arnold House (opening Autumn 2005) will provide an additional 11 secure beds. Educational sessions are provided in response to the assessed needs of each young person.
